STAIN REMOVAL

The advice on these pages is given in good faith but it is made clear these remedies are undertaken at your own risk. No responsibility can be taken as regards their results or any consequences relating to their use. Please read notes at beginning of this section.

If you place the stained area on a soft absorbent cloth, or rolled up ball of kitchen paper, and use a circular motion from the outside in towards the centre, this will avoid making a ring mark.

Do not rub the remover onto the stain as this can damage the fabric and cause the stain to spread, always use a dabbing motion.

If the damaged item is washable, rinse NON GREASY stains away with water.

If the stain is greasy, sprinkle talc on the mark to absorb it.

Adhesive to Blood

CANDLE WAX - CURRY # DEODORANT - GREASE # HAIR LACQUER - LIPSTICK

METAL POLISH - OIL # PAINT - STICKY MARKS # TAR - WINES/SPIRITS

STAIN	FABRIC/ITEM	REMOVAL
Adhesive (Latex)	Fabrics/Upholstery	If wet, remove with damp cloth. If dry, loosen with a liquid grease solvent, rub off as much as possible, sponge or launder.
Adhesives (Clear or contact)	NON ACETATE Fabrics/Upholstery	Treat with amyl acetate. Dab from wrong side over an absorbent pad.
Adhesives (Clear or contact)	ACETATE Fabrics/Upholstery	Treat with white spirit. Dab from wrong side over an absorbent pad. Acetate should not be treated with acetone.
Alcohol	Carpet	Squirt from soda siphon.
Beer	Fabrics	Rinse or soak in lukewarm water, then wash in heavy duty detergent.
Beverages	Carpet	Squirt from soda siphon.
Blood	Fabric	Soak in salted cold water, or warm detergent solution. Wash in the usual manner. Stubborn stains can be soaked in hydrogen peroxide solution (20 volume strength diluted 1 part to 4 parts water) plus a few drops of ammonia. To remove blood from clothing treat with hydrogen peroxide, then launder as normal. Donna Jones For blood stains which have been set and/or washed in, dampen the stain with warm - not hot - water and cover with UNSEASONED meat tenderizer, making a paste. N.B. The seasoned variety can leave a stain from the seasoning. Cover with wet paper towel and let sit several hours or overnight, keeping it damp if possible. This will break down the blood just as it does to meat fibres. Rinse off the past, spray with ammonia- water solution or commercial pre-wash spray and launder as normal as soon as possible.
